This past week has been the first real week of training since the March half marathon.

Let’s just say that the extra hot and humid weathe rof the summer really de-motivated me over much of the summer. Some weeks I only ran once. Yikes!

For the week, I finished 27 miles this morning and my legs are a little sore. The heat/humidity seems to really take it out o fme. My heartrate has been extremely high for the amount of effort I’m putting into my runs. I had a 5 mile run on Friday that was at pace i.e. as fast as I could muster and my heartrate quickly leveled off at 173-177 bpm for the last 2 or 3 miles!! I completed that run in about 40 minutes. That was one of the hardest workouts since earlier this year. The heat sucks!

I am looking forward to the fall and cooling temperatures.

I am using a marathon training guide to help me with my cardio and it should help shed some unnecessary pounds. I think by the time the half marathon comes I’ll be down to an acceptable weight that will allow me to meet my goal of 1 hour and 30 minutes or less.
